The First US Presidential Debate…a world citizen opinion
Posted in American Politics with tags American Politics, McCain, Obama on September 27, 2008 by thesadarabCredit where credit is due. The American election is one of a kind. Brilliant but messy democracy at work. Plenty of rules, but if you know how to break them legally, do it. Ethics and integrity is put on hold at best, and lies and half truths are spread if not by each candidate’s campaign, it will by dubious support groups.
There are four types of audience who are following and watching such debates. The first, the partisan crowd, who regardless how badly their candidate did, will always say, he or she nailed the debate. The second, the independents, who actually watch and judge based on policy and the personality of the candidate. The third, will be the racists, who will never vote for a man or a woman of a different color or faith (plenty of them this election). The fourth will be the rest of the world crowd, who are always fascinated by the process, and the policy and the personality of the candidates, even though their opinion won’t matter. This election is probably the most important election of our life time, because so much has gone wrong, and unless there is a drastic change (more than 145 degrees) in the way problems and conflicts are solved, our children will inherit a very troubled world.
Anyway, here is my take on the debate as a member of the the fourth type of the crowd.
What a contrast. The debate was between someone, McCain, who wants to stick with the old ways of doing things, that did not work, but he thinks he will make them work, and another, Obama, who wants to try something new, which we, the rest of the world, believe that will be the best approach for a better America and a better world.
Ps.. I would love to have seen Huckabee was the one representing the Republican party. He had more integrity than the rest of the repbublican candidates combined, excluding Ron Paul.
Who won the debate? Well, here is a link to a summary of opinions of most of the US TV networks.
Israelis for Obama.. how about Muslims.. please don’t do it
Posted in American Politics, Quick Thoughts, Religion, YouTube with tags American Politics, Israel, Jews, Muslims, Politics on September 26, 2008 by thesadarabWhen I saw this I was moved. The clip is professionally scripted, filmed, and edited. I like it, though, it is one sided. I am just wondering if Muslims did the same thing with the same hopeful message in support of Obama, what will Americans think of Obama? A Muslim? A terrorist sympathiser?.. Sad!
THE UNITED STATES
Posted in American Politics with tags Politics on September 26, 2008 by thesadarabAn interesting point of view from the ex-Prime Minister of Malaysia.

1. I wonder what is happening to the United States of America. It used to lay down the laws and rules which the whole world must abide. If any country refuses then blacklisting, sanctions and even invasions by the US forces might ensue.
2. It set the forms and standards for everything; systems of Government, human rights, economic transparency etc etc. Now it seems to be breaking or ignoring its own rules, regulations and laws.
3. It had condemned the Internal Security Act as unjust and a violation of human rights. Following the shock and awe invasion of Iraq, it has detained alleged terrorists without trial and without rights and habeas corpus proceeings. Some detainees have been there for five years…. Link
Singapore, Singapore, Singapore..
Posted in Quick Thoughts with tags Cities, Singapore on September 22, 2008 by thesadarabThe city state, where every trolley in its airport works smoothly and can be steered the direction that you want and it would not fight back. The city where almost every public toilet is cleaner than at least 50% of private bathrooms at homes. Singapore is an amazing place. Its public services is more efficient that its private services. Its public servants are paid higher than their equivalent in the private sector. Singapore where the word corruption is not part of its dictionary. Singapore where it is safe to walk anywhere, anytime, and with your wallet in your back pocket.
Whenever I visit Singapore, I often wish that someone could video-document its clean streets, public buildings, and email the video to the Arab leaders who are completely ignorant of how dirty our streets have become, how unsafe our cities have become, and how corrupted our public services have become.
I only wish it was more affordable.
How do you prove that God exists?
Posted in Quick Thoughts, Religion with tags Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Religion on September 21, 2008 by thesadarabSimply, you can’t. Because it is not supposed to be that simple. If anyone can prove that God exists without any doubt, people will only follow one religion, instead of of having so many different religions. Of course there will always be people who do not want to believe in the existence of God. Put it this way, according to Islam, Christianity, Judaism and my be other religions, God sent his messengers to inform people of his existence. Some followed, some wanted to see miracles as proof, and others just shunned away irrespective of logic, reason or proof. So who are we to prove that God exist when his messengers had ‘failed’ to convince everyone around them of his existence.
Personally, I believe that is the way it is supposed to be. A challenge to the mind, the soul, and the body. Plenty of questions, and plenty of answers, but not all questions have answers and not all answers are correct. Just keep on searching. It is no sin.
